Vietnam has shared the outcomes and efforts that its agencies haveachieved in carrying out the master plan of the ASEAN Socio-CulturalCommunity (ASCC) at the just concluded 12th ASCC Council meeting inMyanmar.
Speaking at the event which ended onSeptember 30, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social AffairsNguyen Thanh Hoa stressed that the bloc should soon finalise thecontents of the ASEAN Joint Statement on Climate Change as well as ofthe draft document on the protection and promotion of the rights ofmigrant workers.
The Vietnamese official also calledon the ASCC’s senior officials to play a more active role in workingout the socio-cultural contents for the post-2015 ASEAN vision – whichaims to create equality, balance social development and sustainableenvironment, enhance capacity to cope with any new emerging problems,and actively contribute to the international community.
The 12th ASCC Council meeting hailed the outcomes member countrieshave achieved over the past time, with 97 percent of the work items inthe ASCC master plan already underway. Participants also took note ofprogress in implementing the five priorities this year of the ASCC,including the establishment of a multi-sectoral special task force forthe management of natural disaster risks mitigation and humanitarianassistance efforts.
The ministers reached agreementon the five main components of socio-cultural contents in the post-2015ASEAN vision, and adopted a joint statement on the outcomes of themeeting.-VNA
