Vietnam attends int’l public sector conference in Czech

Prague (VNA) - A Vietnamese delegation from the Ministry of Finance and theState Audit took part in the 9th InternationalPublic Sector Conference in Prague, the Czech Republic, from February 28 - March 1.

Themed “A sustainable public sector”, the annual event wasjointly organised by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) of the UK and the Supreme Audit Office of the Czech Republic.  It saw the participation of over 200 delegateswho are leading officials, financial and accounting experts, and auditors fromthe public sector of many countries and international organizations.

The conference serves as a forum for participants to discuss challenges facingthe public sector and propose measures to governments to build theirsustainable public sector in the context of the impact of aging population,climate change, and trade protection.

Attendees focused their discussion on topics related to public sector initiativesin the digital age; role of supreme audit bodies in building and developing sustainablepublic sector; fighting violations, corruption and organized financial crimes;and financial reporting, public financial management and implementation ofinternational auditing accounting standards.

Talking to the Vietnam News Agency’s correspondents, Deputy Director of theState Audit Nguyen Tuan Anh said the Vietnamese delegation’s participation atthe event aims to contribute ideas on coordination between the ACCA and Vietnamto further enhance the role of its activities in Vietnam.

The conference helps increase support of the ACCA for theMinistry of Finance and the State Audit of Vietnam in the coming time,especially helping Vietnam learn more about auditing activities of countries inthe world, he stressed.

Within the framework of the event, the Vietnamese delegation had bilateral meetingsand working sessions with partners from the Czech Republic, Pakistan, Nepal andJamaica.

During the working session with representatives from the Supreme Audit Office of the Czech Republic, Deputy Director of the State AuditNguyen Tuan Anh said Vietnam is taking on the role of the AsianOrganisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) Chairin the 2018-2021 term.

He asked the Czech agency to support the State Audit of Vietnam’s candidacy forthe Governing Board of the International Organisation of SupremeAudit Institutions (INTOSAI) in 2019-2025.

Zdenka Hornikova, Vice President of the Supreme Audit Office ofthe Czech Republic, agreed to enhance relationsbetween the two countries’ audit agencies in the coming time.

She announced that her country would host the European Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI) in 2020 and assume the Chairmanship of EUROSAI for the term2020-2023.-VNA
