Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - The Vietnamese men's volleyball team triumphed over New Zealand in their opening match, securing a spot in the quarter-finals of the AVC Nations Cup in Bahrain on June 18.

Vietnam are in Group D with the Republic of Korea (RoK) and New Zealand, competing in a round-robin format for the top two spots in the quarter-finals.

Earlier, New Zealand lost 0-3 to the RoK in their opening match, meaning the Vietnamese team only needed to win against New Zealand to advance.

As anticipated, Vietnam delivered an impressive performance, defeating New Zealand 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-15).

In this match, the Vietnamese team effectively exploited their opponent's early weaknesses, establishing a dominant position.

With their early advancement to the quarter-finals, the Vietnamese team will face the RoK in a match to determine the top spot in Group D.

This marks the third consecutive participation of the Vietnamese team ♚in the AVC Nations Cup. In 2023, they finished in fourth place, followed by a sixth place finish the subsequent year./.
