Hanoi (VNA)🔯 – Vietnam became the second-largest supplier of aquatic products to Brazil in 2024, accounting for 17.33% of the South American country's total import volume and 8.69% of its total import value, said the Agency of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

With Brazil’s growing demand for seafood, Vietnamese producers are seeing significant opportunities to expand exports to this market, the agency noted. Last year, Brazil imported 291,600 tonnes of aquatic products valued at 1.57 billion USD, reflecting an 8.1% increase in volume and a 10.4% rise in value compared to 2023, according to data from the International Trade Centre. The country also increased seafood imports from other major suppliers such as Chile, China, Argentina, Ecuador, and the US. Notably, Vietnam’s shipments to Brazil surged by 53.8% in volume and 38.6% in value, reaching 50,500 tonnes and 136.6 million USD, respectively. According to the Department of Customs under the Ministry of Finance, Vietnam’s aquatic product exports reached 655 million USD in February, marking a 44.5% year-on-year increase. This brought the total for the first two months of 2025 to 1.42 billion USD, up 19% compared to the same period in 2024. China, Japan, and the US remained Vietnam’s top aquatic export markets, accounting for 52.33% of its total export value during the first two months of the year. Shipments to these key markets continued to grow year-on-year. Experts also noted strong growth in seafood exports to other major markets, including the Republic of Korea, Australia, Thailand, the UK, Canada, Germany, Russia, and Brazil. Moving forward, Vietnam’s seafood exports are expected to maintain an upward trend, driven by rising global demand./.
