Followingthe export of the first batch of frozen shrimp to several countries onSeptember 11, the next consignment comprising dragon fruit, coffee, coconut,grapefruit, and passion fruit was shipped on September 16-17, it said.
TheEVFTA will see the EU remove tariffs on 86.5 percent of Vietnam’s seafoodexports in the next three years, 90.3 percent in the next five years, andcompletely in seven years.
Takingadvantage of these preferential tariffs, Vietnamese exporters have increasedseafood shipments by around 10 percent since the start of August.
TheEU is the biggest market for Vietnamese coffee, accounting for 38 percent ofthe total exports. The average value of exports to the bloc has been 1.2-1.4billion USD a year for the past five years.
Exportsto the market is set to rise further when the EU eliminates tariffs on allunroasted and roasted coffee products and processed coffee, which are now 7-11 percentand 9-12 percent.
Opportunitiesto export fresh fruits produced in a closed chain for experienced companiessuch as Dong Giao, Nafoods and Vina T&T are huge.
TheEU is a highly demanding market in terms of compliance with safety standards.European consumers value high-quality products with special characteristicssuch as organic, fair trade, and geographical indications, experts said.
Theyadded that Vietnam’s agricultural sector would be one of the biggest winnersfrom the EVFTA as a reduction in tariffs would increase demand and boostexports to Europe’s giant, high-spending market.
VoTan Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, saidto take full advantage of the trade deal, farmers should shift from traditionalto sustainable cultivation.
Enterprisesshould increase processing levels and comply with regulations related totechnical barriers and food safety and hygiene included in free tradeagreements in general but especially the EVFTA.
TheGovernment should also improve food safety management, and solicit moreinvestment in agriculture, especially post-harvest processing, he added.
