Vietnam chairs UNSC committee’s meeting on visit to South Sudan
As Chair of the UN Security Council (UNSC) Committee established pursuant to Resolution 2206 (2015) concerning South Sudan, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, chaired a meeting discussing the visit to South Sudan from November 16-20 by a committee’s delegation led by Quy.
New York (VNA) - As Chair of the UN Security Council (UNSC)Committee established pursuant to Resolution 2206 (2015) concerning South Sudan,Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN,chaired a meeting discussing the visit to South Sudan from November 16-20 by a committee’s delegation led by Quy.
Quy briefed the participants on the outcomes of the visit, which was organised toimplement the UNSC Resolution 2577 (2021), which encourages the committee’sChair to conduct field trips to South Sudan to monitor the implementation ofmeasures of the council’s resolutions related to the African country and thepeace process in the country.
During this visit, Quy sought information and assessments of the South SudaneseGovernment and related partners on the political, security and humanitariansituation in the country, the progress of the implementation of the 2018 PeaceAgreement in South Sudan, and the implementation of review criteria under theUNSC Resolution 2577 (2021), thus creating a basis for the council to reviewand consider adjusting or lifting the arms embargo related to South Sudan in2022.
The Vietnamese representative welcomed the progress in SouthSudan since the establishment of the Transitional Government. As this was thelast meeting of the Committee chaired by Vietnam in the 2020-2021 term,Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy expressed his thanks for the support and cooperationof the Committee's member countries and the UN Secretariat during the period.
Committee member countries emphasised that the visit chairedby Vietnam helped countries better understand the situation in South Sudan andthe results of the implementation of the 2018 Peace Agreement. They alsoexpressed their gratitude for Vietnam’s contributions in the past two years as theChair of the Committee.
The Security Council Committee established pursuant toresolution 2206 (2015) concerning South Sudan oversees the sanctions measuresimposed by the Security Council.

Vietnam will maintain its active contributions to UN peacekeeping efforts in South Sudan, said Phan Dinh Trac, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of its Commission for Internal Affairs, during his meeting with the African country’s Vice President Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior in New York on September 23 (local time).

Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, on his post as Chair of the UN Security Council (UNSC) Committee established pursuant to Resolution 2206 (2015) concerning South Sudan, conducted a field trip to the nation between November 16 and 20 to monitor its peace progress following the council’s related measures.

The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
The ministry has instructed Vietnamese representative agencies in Israel, Iran, as well as those in neighbouring countries, to closely monitor the situation and request local authorities to ensure absolute safety for Vietnamese citizens living, studying, and working in high-risk areas.

Known as the “four pillars for Vietnam’s ascend”, the Pobiburo's Resolutions 57, 59, 66, and 68 focus on cultivating a robust national entrepreneurial spirit, unlocking resources for innovation across society, and accelerating the development of digital economy, knowledge-based economy, green economy, and circular economy, propelling Vietnam forward rapidly and firmly on the path of modernisation and international integration.
Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang cleared up deputies' concern regarding how to spur socio-economic growth, renew traditional growth motives and establish new momentum for development.
Vietnam proposed several priorities: narrowing the digital divide, strengthening women’s leadership in the digital economy and AI governance, and mobilising sustainable financing for gender equality initiatives in line with each country’s national priorities and context.
