The talks between China’s Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and President Tran Dai Quang (Source: VNA) Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trunghighlighted the significant outcomes of the recent State visit to China byPresident Tran Dai Quang from May 11-15 in an interview with Vietnam NewsAgency.
Firstly, the two sides agreed to maintain thetradition of close contact between Party and State leaders in flexible forms totimely exchange opinions on major issues in bilateral relations in addition toregional and international issues of mutual concern. Party General Secretaryand President Xi Jinping affirmed he would visit Vietnam and attend the APECEconomic Leaders’ Meeting in 2017.
Secondly, they vowed to effectively utilizeexisting cooperative mechanisms, including the Joint Steering Committee forBilateral Cooperation and meetings between representatives from the two Politburos,while enhancing coordination in external affairs, defence, security and lawenforcement and boosting people-to-people exchanges.
Thirdly, both sides will work for the balancedand effective development of cooperation across the fields. They pledged to directministries, departments, localities, and businesses to promptly carry outcooperation plans, programmes, and projects.
Regarding the imbalance in bilateral trade,China will evaluate Vietnamese milk and dairy products’ standards whileaccelerating legal procedures to import some Vietnamese fruits in addition tomaintaining trade links in agriculture, forestry and fishery products, andfacilitating the opening of Vietnamese trade promotion offices in China.
President Quang reiterated that Vietnam wantsChinese businesses to implement hi-tech and environmentally friendly investmentprojects in Vietnam. He proposed China provide preferential credit packages forinfrastructure projects in Vietnam.
The two sides agreed to step up affiliation inagriculture, environment, science, technology, and transport.
Both nations will work together to create ricevarieties resistant to drought and saltwater intrusion, protect and usecross-border water resources sustainably, tackle climate change impacts,transfer technologies, manage and inspect nuclear safety, and connect bilateraltransport infrastructure systems.
Additionally, Vietnam and China agreed to expandcooperation in culture, sports, tourism and people-to-people exchanges,particularly among youngsters, localities and the press.
They also vowed to cooperate to settle anydisputes in the East Sea.
President Quang reiterated the consistentstandpoint of Vietnam in this matter and urged the two countries to properlyhandle issues related to fisheries and fishermen’s operation at sea, andprevent maritime matters from affecting the development of bilateral relationsand regional peace, stability and cooperation.
Both sides agreed to adhere to commonperceptions reached by the two Parties and States’ leaders and the agreement onbasic principles guiding the settlement of sea-related issues, along withcontrolling marine disputes without carrying out actions to complicate thesituation and expand disputes, implement the Declaration on the Conduct ofParties in the East Sea and build a Code of Conduct in the East Sea.
During the visit, the two sides issued a jointstatement and signed a number of cooperation agreements.
Regarding the high-level forum on the Belt andRoad Initiative in Beijing on May 14-15, the Vietnamese delegation activelyparticipated in the discussions and the drafting of the forum’s documents, theDeputy FM said.
He noted that PresidentQuang delivered two speeches at both the morning and afternoon sessions on May15, making it clear that Vietnam welcomes regional economic connectivityinitiatives, including the “Belt and Road Initiative”.
He shared Vietnam’s experience and contributionsto promoting economic and regional connectivity and implementing the UNSustainable Development Goals through 2030.
On the sidelines of the forum, the President hadmany bilateral meetings with leaders from other participating countries todiscuss enhancing coordination efficiency at multilateral forums, contributingto peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.
His visit to China has demonstrated the externalpolicy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation, diversification,and active international integration of the Vietnamese Party and State, Trungsaid.
It also contributes to the development ofVietnam-China relations, he added.-VNA
