Hanoi (VNA)🌟 - TheUnited Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam on March 28 convened atechnical meeting focusing on a roadmap for transition from coal-fired powergeneration to sustainable alternatives.

The meeting aimed toprovide the latest information about policies and technologies for thetransition process, the best available techniques; costs, benefits and potentialimpacts of the shift while discussing options for decommissioning, repurposingand transforming various types of coal-fired power plants. It facilitatedconnections between existing and potential investors in the energy sector, alongwith financial institutions, to explore future investment opportunities in thetransition process.

The eventgathered key stakeholders from diverse sectors, including Vietnamese agencies, members of the International Partners Group (IPG) and the GlasgowFinancial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), coal-fired power plants, financialinstitutions, banks, investors, development partners and non-governmentalorganisations.

ﷺ Discussions revolved around the outcomes of a comprehensive casestudy which presents a feasible transitionroadmap for Vietnam's major coal-fired power plants, specifically Pha Lai, CaoNgan, and Van Phong plants.

UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam RamlaKhalidi highlighted the importance of ensuring a fairand comprehensive transition process, and coordinated efforts amongstakeholders to minimise challenges, especially those faced by workers directlyor indirectly involved in coal exploitation in remote and mountainous areas./.
