Hanoi (VNA) – In an insightful and timely article, Politburo member and President of the 9th-tenure Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Do Van Chien has underscored the critical political role of the VFF in upholding democracy and the power of great national unity, contributing to building a prosperous, civilised an🍌d happy nation.

His writing comes ahead of the 10th National Congress of the VFF, scheduled for October 16-18 in Hanoi, under the inspiring motto: “Solidarity – Democracy – Innovation – Creativity – Development”. In the article, he wrote that the Congress is set to take place at a pivotal moment when the entire Party, people, and army are poised to achieve the goals and tasks for 2024 and strive to realise the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress in celebration of the 95th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, the 135th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh, and the 95th anniversary of the Vietnam National Unified Front - the traditional day of the VFF, toward the centenaries of the CPV and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. In the past term, amid a global and regional landscape marked by volatility, complexity and unpredictable challenges, along with intense major power competition, Vietnam has stood united, successfully curbed the COVID-19 pandemic and adopted unprecedented solutions to restore and develop the economy while effectively addressing social issues. As a result, the country has never had such fortune, potential, position and international prestige as it does today. Alongside leading efforts that have brought about major and sweeping achievements across various sectors, the Party and the entire political system have placed particular emphasis on the VFF work. The Politburo's decision to elevate the VFF’s Party Delegation to be directly under its oversight underscores the enhanced role and mission of the VFF in the current revolutionary period. Notably, the Party Central Committee concluded a review of the 20-year implementation of the 9th Party Central Committee’s Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW, leading to the issuance of Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW dated November 24, 2023 on the continuation of promoting the tradition and strength of great national unity for a more prosperous and happier nation.
Reflecting on the implementation of the Resolution of the VFF’s 9th National Congress for the 2019-2024 tenure, Chien wrote that the VFF, socio-political organisations and member organisations always operate under the Party’s comprehensive leadership and ensure the increasingly close and effective coordination with State agencies, authorities at all levels and the political system, especially in social supervision and criticism, Party and administration building. The VFF and its member organisations have made efforts to renew their working contents and methods, protect the legitimate rights and interests of its members and the public. Emulation movements and campaigns have ignited a spirit of emulation, creative labour and community cooperation, contributing to economic development, settlement of social issues and sustainable poverty reduction. To date, the Central Relief Committee has received over 2 trillion VND (83.3 million USD) in donations, with the VFF Standing Committee ensuring transparency and timely disbursements to disaster-hit localities and those in much need. People-to-people diplomacy has achieved positive results, with VFF chapters at all levels and member organisations actively promoting solidarity, friendship and peace initiatives.
Looking ahead to the VFF’s 10th Congress, Chien called for a comprehensive grasp of Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW and Ho Chi Minh Thought, continuing to renew working contents and methods and strengthen public solidarity. To effectively follow the Law on the Implementation of Grassroots Democracy and further exercise citizens’ right to be true masters of the nation, it is essential to engage experts, scientists, managers and experienced and dedicated individuals in the VFF’s advisory councils. Moreover, it is a must to improve patriotic emulation movements, actively and creatively follow the nationwide campaign "Joining Hands to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Housing" launched by the Prime Minister and the Presidium of the VFF Central Committee. This also aligns with the fourth action plan on promoting the people’s mastery role and self-management, building united, prosperous and happy residential communities. To successful realise the Resolution set forth by the VFF’s 10th National Congress, Chien stressed the need to enhance training for the VFF staff from the central to local levels. In any circumstances, the VFF must serve as a solid "bridge" to maintain the strong connection between the Party, the State, and the people, uphold solidarity among various ethnic groups, social classes and walks of life, foster solidarity between the majority ethnic groups and ethnic minorities, between religious and non-religious communities, and between Vietnamese at home and abroad, he said.
In closing, he called on the entire Party and people to continue to remember and follow the teachings of beloved President Ho Chi Minh "Unity, unity, great unity. Success, success, great success”./.
