Chargé d’Affaires of the German Embassy to Vietnam Hanns-Joerg Brunner has hailed the continuous growing relations between the two countries with the highlight of the establishment of the strategic partnership in 2011. He made the statement during a meeting on October 1 in Hanoi held by the Embassy to mark the 25th anniversary of Germany’s Unification Day (October 3) and 40th founding anniversary of the Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relation (September 23). The German diplomat expressed his belief that the upcoming State visit to Germany by President Truong Tan Sang and the tour of Vietnam by German Foreign Minister Frank Walter-Steinmeier will contribute to consolidating the political trust between the two nations’ leaders, and pushing the Vietnam-Germany strategic partnership forward in the future.
For his part, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan expressed his thanks to support the German Government and people have provided for Vietnam during the country’s national building and safeguarding, socio-economic development, and international integration. Vietnam and Germany have seen bilateral growing cooperation in political and diplomatic fields though maintaining delegation exchanges at all levels, as well as the establishment and implementation of cooperation mechanisms such as the macro-economic dialogue and political consultation between the two foreign ministries, he said. He expressed his hope that the two nations will see breakthroughs in trade and investment in the next five years to fully tap their potential. Vietnam and Germany share viewpoints and benefits in a wide range of important issues, including targets to foster bilateral relationship as well as contributions to settling international issues of common concern, Nhan affirmed.
Over the past five years, Germany has been one of Vietnam’s leading trade partners in the European Union, accounting for 20 percent of Vietnamese exports to the market. The investment flow from the country to Vietnam has also increased 70 percent to 1.38 billion USD in 2015 from 824 million USD in 2010. Among the prominent ongoing joint projects are the German House, Metro line 2 in Ho Chi Minh City, and the Vietnam-Germany University.
