Vietnam, India to further defence cooperation

Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, has suggested that Vietnam and India should work harder to beef up the partnership between the two air forces.

He made the suggestion during a Hanoimeeting with a delegation from the United Service Institution and theInstitute for Defence Studies and Analyses of India led by LieutenantGeneral Avadesh K. Singh on May 26.

Host and guestexpressed their belief that the two sides will work more closely intheir naval affiliation, the key pillar in the two countries’ defencepartnership.

They also held out hope that cooperation in defence training and air forces will be sped up.

The officers reviewed the sound traditional ties between the two counties over the past years.

Regarding China’s illegal placement of its oil rig HaiyangShiyou-981 in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf,Lt. Gen. Singh affirmed that India objects China’s wrongful move.

He stated that his country supports Vietnam in the issue.-VNA
