An official of the Italian foreign ministry said at a recent celebration of Vietnam’s 74th National Day (September 2) that in a rules-based international order, the two countries can cooperate within the framework of the United Nations so as to promote the effectiveness of multilateralism.

Rome (VNA) – An official of the Italian foreignministry said at a recent celebration of Vietnam’s 74th National Day (September2) that in a rules-based international order, the two countries can cooperatewithin the framework of the United Nations so as to promote the effectivenessof multilateralism.
At the event in Rome on September 12, LucaSabbatucci, Director General of Global Affairs at the ministry, congratulatedVietnam on its election as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for2020-2021, expressing his hope that the country will actively makecontributions to the international community.
Proposing stronger cooperation within the UNframework, he said in an inter-connected and globalised world like it is now,no countries can make unilateral actions.
The official also reviewed the all-roundsuccesses in the two nations’ strategic partnership, from politics, economy,security and defence to culture, education and people-to-people exchange.
He noted 2019 has marked a special success inVietnam-Italy relations with a series of visits to the Southeast Asian countryby Italian leaders like Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte in June and then ForeignMinister Enzo Moavero Milanesi in May.
Italy is looking forwards to the upcoming tripby Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Phung Quoc Hien, he added.
In her speech, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen ThiBich Hue said after more than 30 years of reform, Vietnam is now one of thefastest growing economies in the world, and it is integrating extensively intothe international and regional communities.
In 2020, as the ASEAN Chair and a non-permanentmember of the UN Security Council, Vietnam will continue working closely withall partners to achieve sustainable and meaningful results.
It will also remain a trustworthy friend andpartner of all countries around the world as seen through its activecontributions to global efforts in many issues of common concern like climatechange, peace, security and development, she stressed.
On this occasion, Hue also offered thanks toItaly for its support to Vietnam’s bid for a non-permanent seat at the UNSecurity Council, as well as for the close cooperation in training the peace-keepingforce./.
