Vietnam, Kanagawa prefecture extend economic ties

Governor of the Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa Yuji Kuroiwa has expressed hope for closer cooperation with Vietnam, especially in economics.

As the second largest prefecture in Japan, Kanagawais designated as a national special zone with many small andmedium-sized firms keen to invest in Vietnam, Kuroiwa told head of theParty Central Committee’s Commission for Economic Affairs Vuong Dinh Huein Hanoi on July 25.

He added that the prefecture wants to build an industrial park in Vietnam.

The governor also informed his host that the Kanagawa prefecture hassigned a memorandum of understanding with the central city of Da Nang onpersonnel exchange between the Da Nang tumour hospital and Kanagawatumour centre.

The Vietnamese Party official welcomed theproposals of Kanagawa prefecture on cooperation with Vietnam andexpressed hope that the prefecture will encourage investment inVietnam’s education, health care and public services.

Hesuggested Japan allows more Vietnamese engineers to work in the countryin the time to come, which will help ease Japan’s shortage of workforcewhile increasing human resources quality for Vietnam.

Hue saidhis commission intends to study Japan’s experience in institutional andeconomic restructuring in order to work out suitable options forVietnam in this field towards the aim of further improving business andinvestment climate and competitiveness.

The same day, aVietnam - Kanagawa investment forum was held in Hanoi the same day,which resulted in the signing of an MoU on cooperation between theMinistry of Planning and Investment and Kanagawa prefecture.

Governor Kuroiwa said Kanagawa is home to firms active in electronics,mechanical engineering, media and biotechnology, and about 40Kanagawa-based businesses have invested in Vietnam so far.

Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Van Trung vowed allpossible support for Kanagawa enterprises, especially those operating inhealth care, education and vocational training.-VNA
