Vietnam, Laos cooperate in child health care

The Vietnam and Laos Ministries of Health co-organised a seminar on measures to boost cooperation in child health care sector in the Lao capital city of Vientiane on July 3-4.
The Vietnam and Laos Ministries of Health co-organised a seminar on measures to boost cooperation in child health care sector in the Lao capital city of Vientiane on July 3-4.

Participants at the seminar touched upon issues such as heart-related diseases, emergencies, surgery, infectious diseases, autism and newborn screening.

Speaking at the event, Lao Minister of Health Ponmek Dalaloy expressed his hope that the presentations by medical experts would help improve professional skills for Lao doctors and nurses and provide better health care services for children in his country which sees a high rate of infant mortality compared with that of other regional countries.

He also thanked the Vietnamese government and people for their assistance to the Lao health sector over the past years.

On behalf of the Vietnamese delegation, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien stressed that the seminar is a good opportunity for Vietnamese medical workers and their Lao colleagues to share experiences and improve service skills. She pledged to do her best to provide more assistance to the Lao health care sector.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health and the National Pediatrics Hospital donated medical equipment and facilities to the Lao Hospital for Mothers and Children./.
