Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Prime MinisterVu Duc Dam suggested the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO)continue cooperating with and supporting Vietnam in building a national strategyon intellectual property, thus creating an impetus for the country’s innovationprocess.
During a reception for WIPO Director GeneralFrancis Gurry in Hanoi on March 23, the Deputy PM thanked the organisation forits assistance for Vietnam in building and fine-tuning the country’s legalsystem on IP.
The WIPO also supported Vietnam in improving thecapacity of agencies in protecting and exercising IP rights, developingintellectual assets, training human resources, and raising public awareness of IP,he said.
He revealed that the Vietnamese Government isdirecting ministries, sectors and localities to examine and propose amendmentsto intellectual property–related legal regulations, in order to promote innovationin the country.
According to the Deputy PM, ministries, sectorsand localities have worked hard to improve the capacity and operationalefficiency of agencies responsible for protecting and exercising IP rights,contributing to attracting investment in scientific and technological development,towards improving business climate and increasing competitiveness of thenation’s economy.
For his part, Francis Gurry reaffirmed positiveresults in IP-related cooperation between Vietnam and the WIPO.
Vietnam has set a vision in its scientific andtechnological development strategy, towards building a national strategy onintellectual property, he said.
The guest stressed that the WIPO will continuehelping Vietnam implement projects to build a national IP programme, audit IP agencies’ resources and management, and developIP-hub for intellectual property commercialisation. -VNA
