Vietnam, Mexico agree on measures to strengthen bilateral ties

Hanoi (VNA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on March 28 receivedMexican Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Carmen Moreno Toscano who is inVietnam from March 27-29 for an official visit and to co-chair the twoministries’ political consultation.

At the meeting, Son affirmed that Vietnam always attachesimportance to and hopes to further deepen its traditional friendship and finecooperation with Mexico, towards the establishment of a more suitablepartnership framework in the coming time.

He proposed the two ministries speed up delegation exchanges;maintain close cooperation, coordination and support for each other at internationalordinations and multilateral forums that both are members to, such as theUnited Nations and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC); and promotecollaboration between Vietnam and the Pacific Alliance (AP), and between Mexicoand the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Carmen Moreno Toscano stressed that Vietnam is one of Mexico's important political andeconomic partners in Asia, particularly as both countries are members of the APEC,and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership(CPTPP).

The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continuecoordinating closely with its Vietnamese counterpart to concretise orientationsand measures to deepen the bilateral ties and bring substantive benefits to the two countries’ peoples.

On the same day, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of ForeignAffairs Do Hung Viet and the Mexican official co-chaired the seventhpolitical consultation to share information on each country’s situation, agreeon measures to strengthen the bilateral relations in the coming time, andexchange views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The two sides agreed to continue stepping up bilateralcooperation, especially in economics and trade; bringing into full playadvantages of the CPTPP; and perfecting a legal corridor to increase theeffectiveness of collaboration activities.

It is necessary to maintain and promote the efficiency ofthe political consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries, and thejoint committee on economic, trade and investment cooperation; and acceleratenegotiations towards the signing of cooperation documents in the fields ofdiplomacy, finance, agriculture, animal and plant quarantine,education-training, and defence.

After the session, the two sides signed a memorandum ofunderstanding on collaboration in diplomatic training between the twoministries.

Within the framework of her visit, Carmen Moreno Toscano alsopaid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum, and worked with theVietnam-Mexico Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group./.
