– General Director of the State-ownedVietnam News Agency (VNA) Nguyen Duc Loi met with officials of several majorpress agencies in Spain and the UK during his Europe trip from December 12-18to step up cooperative relations with European partners.

During his working sessions with the executive of Spain’sEFE news agency, and the UK’s Thomson Reuters and BBC, General Director NguyenDuc Loi, who is also a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) CentralCommittee, compared notes about the role and operation of the press in theworld’s current situation.

The sides shared positive assessment on theirbilateral cooperation in information exchange over the past time, stressingthat the sharing of information among press agencies, especially major ones, isan urgent need at present, in order to diversify sources of information andincrease competitiveness of traditional press agencies given the rapiddevelopment of new communication forms, particularly social networks.

They underlined the necessity to reform operationalmodels and methods as well as promote new forms of information provision to suitthe new situation and changes in the way the public access information.

The sides informed each other about their operationand development in recent time while sharing experience in developing new formsof information, especially mass media products.

The management of EFE, Thomson Reuters and BBC introducedtheir organisational structure and latest information products to the VNAdelegation and said they are willing to share experience in the field.

The European partners also affirmed to help the VNAwith training of reporters, editors and technicians to develop new informationforms.

During his trip, General Director Nguyen Duc Loi also calledat Vietnamese embassies in Spain and the UK.

The State-owned VNA boasts a network of 63 bureaus in all thecities and provinces nationwide and 30 overseas bureaus across five continents.

With more than 60 media products by more than1,000 reporters and editors out of its 2,400-strong staff, the VNA is now themedia agency with the largest number of products in the country: bulletins,photos, television programmes, dailies, weeklies, monthlies, magazines,pictorials, books, TV channel, e-newspapers and information programmes onmobile platforms.

The agency also delivers news in the largestnumber of languages. It runs the e-newspaper Vietnamplus in five languages –Vietnamese, English, Chinese, French and Spanish at www.ufabetindo.in along with severalother print and e-newspapers in English, French, Korean, Lao, Japanese andRussian.-VNA
