Vietnam News Agency reporters continue to write “heroic epic”

The history of revolutionary journalism in Vietnam has recorded the profound imprint of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) as a strategic, reliable information agency of the Party and State throughout the great resistance wars. During the years of arduous warfare, with patriotism, courage, and unwavering will, its reporters were present on all battlefields, vividly reflecting on the heroic struggle of the Vietnamese army and people for national independence, freedom, and reunification, said VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang.

Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) on April 24 organised a hybrid seminar titled “Viet tiep ban hung ca” (Continuing to write the heroic epic) on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2025).

This is a special occasion to show gratitude to the generations of the agency’s officials, reporters, technicians, and staff members who made significant contributions to the resistance wars to protect the Fatherland and to fulfilling international duties in Laos and Cambodia.

Speaking at the event, VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang expressed deep respect and heartfelt gratitude to all generations of officials, reporters, technicians, and staff members, affirming that their silent and persistent contributions created a path of glory and pride for the Vietnam News Agency in the revolutionary cause.

The history of revolutionary journalism in Vietnam has recorded the profound imprint of the VNA as a strategic, reliable information agency of the Party and State throughout the great resistance wars. During the years of arduous warfare, with patriotism, courage, and unwavering will, its reporters were present on all battlefields, vividly reflecting on the heroic struggle of the Vietnamese army and people for national independence, freedom, and reunification, she stated.
Especially, during the resistance war against US imperialists, reporters of the Vietnam News Agency in the North always closely followed the realities of production and combat.

Meanwhile, in the South, on October 12, 1960, the first news bulletin of the Liberation Press Agency (LPA) marked the birth of the official voice from the frontline, contributing significantly to the dissemination of information and encouraging the revolutionary movement. During its 15 years of existence (1960 - 1975), the LPA received over 450 staff members and reporters from the Vietnam News Agency in the North, working alongside armed forces and continuously sending urgent news reports, strengthening the resolve of both residents and soldiers both in the rear and on the frontline.

The pinnacle came on April 30, 1975 — a sacred historical milestone when the VNA had the honour of broadcasting the first photos and news of the great victory of the Spring 1975 General Offensive and Uprising, heralding a new era of independence, freedom, and reunification.

To achieve that historic spring, nearly 260 VNA officials, reporters, and technicians sacrificed their lives or suffered lifelong injuries, the VNA leader said, affirming that these losses are forever engraved in the glorious history of the agency.

Entering the period of renewal and integration, inheriting the heroic traditions, today’s generations of VNA journalists continue to venture into the hotspots and major events of the country and the world, with a spirit of innovation, creativity, and strong application of technology, creating modern, high-quality journalistic products with many honoured at prestigious awards.

At the seminar, the younger generation of the VNA had an opportunity to meet and listen to the stories of several distinguished guests, including former VNA General Director Tran Mai Huong; journalist Chu Chi Thanh, former President of the Vietnam Photographers' Association; journalist Nguyen Ngoc Bich, wife of late VNA Deputy General Dirꦜector Nguyen Duc Giap, former editor of the Southern News Division during the anti-US resistance war; journalist Phan Anh Dung, head of the VNA's representative office in Dak Lak prov🅰ince; war invalid journalist Trieu Thi Thuy, former reporter of the LPA's GP10 course, former Director of the VNA’s Central - Central Highlands office, among others./.
