Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang and Peruvian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Félix Denegri Boza on March 27 co-chaired the third plenary session of the Vietnam-Peru Intergovernmental Committee.

At the virtual meeting, both sides acknowledged the positive progress in bilateral trade despite global economic and political uncertainties. Last year, two-way trade reached 517.57 million USD, an annual rise of 6.5%. Peru remained Vietnam’s sixth-largest trade partner in Latin America.

They also talked about potential investment projects, emphasising the success of Bitel, a telecom brand under the Vietnamese military-run Viettel Group, which has been operating effectively in Peru. Vietnam expressed its hope that the Peruvian Government would continue to facilitate investment activities of Vietnamese businesses.

The two sides discussed cooperation in agriculture, tourism, and multilateral frameworks. They agreed to enhance information exchange on policies and regulations to accelerate market access for fresh farm produce.

Peru showed keen interest in Vietnam’s sustainable tourism model, particularly a zero waste project in Hoi An city in the central province of Quang Nam, which the Latin American nation consider a potential blueprint for its community-based and eco-friendly tourism development.

Speaking at the session, Thang affirmed that Vietnam regards Peru as a key partner in Latin America and is willing to work closely together to strengthen supply chains and promote trade recovery.

She also recommended the sides further their support for business communities via such activities as market information sharing, trade and investment promotion, and both online and offline networking events.

Echoing this sentiment, the Peruvian deputy minister highlighted that Vietnam-Peru relations continue to grow through their participation in regional and global economic frameworks, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Forum of East Asia–Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC), and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

𒊎 Both sides agreed to prioritise measures to expand trade by fully capitalising on CPTPP benefits, diversifying export-import structures, and promoting their key agricultural products./.
