Vietnam pushes ahead with global economic integration

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam considers the engagement in the Trans-PacificPartnership (TPP) agreement and other free trade agreements (FTAs) as one ofthe moves to implement its policy of proactive and active economic integrationin an extensive and inclusive manner, Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry LeHai Binh said.
He made the statement on January 24 in response to reporters’ queries onVietnam’s reaction to the US’s announcement to withdraw from the TPP.
He said overthe past six years, 12 members of the TPP have worked hard to negotiate andconclude the signing of the trade pact, a new-generation free trade agreement.
If executed,the TPP would satisfy the common interests of all member nations, not onlycreating a new momentum for their economic-trade relations, but also holdingsignificance for economic cooperation and connectivity as well as stability andprosperity in the Asian-Pacific region, he added.
Vietnam’s involvementin the TPP and other FTAs is also intended to improve its legal system and marketeconomy institution and create a new driving force to spur the domesticeconomic growth and contribute to the regional economic integration andconnectivity, he noted.
He affirmedthat Vietnam will push ahead with renovations and step up preparations at hometo ensure the effective implementation of its commitments under the signed andto-be-signed free trade agreements.-VNA
