Vietnam has underlined the need to strengthen international and regional cooperation, prevent terrorist financing and help countries timely detect and stop terrorizing plots in responding to terrorism.

At an online meeting of the UN SecurityCouncil on February 10 on the threatsposed by Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/Da’esh), Vietnam’s representativeAmbassador Pham Hai Anh expressedconcern about the rising risks of IS terrorists exploiting the difficulties causedby COVID-19. He stressed that thecomprehensive and sustainable solution to the issue is to foster economicdevelopment, build a culture of peace, promote national reconciliation andenhance communities’ capacity to respond to extremist violence and terrorism.He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to international efforts to fight terrorismglobally under the coordination of the UN. At the meeting, Vladimir Voronkov, Under‑Secretary-General forCounter-Terrorism and the head of the United Nations Office ofCounter-Terrorism, briefed the 15‑member organ on the Secretary‑General’s 12thbiannual strategic report (document S/2021/98) on ISIL threats. Voronkov said thepandemic did not enhance the risk of terrorism in the short term, but itworsened the root causes of terrorism in the medium and long term, whiledetracting attention and redirecting resources of countries from long-standingcounter-terrorism policy challenges.
Michèle Coninsx,Executive Director of the Counter‑Terrorism Committee ExecutiveDirectorate (CTED), said the IS is intensifying its activitiesin Africa, thus worsening the humanitarian situation in the region.
The rapporteurs called oncountries to act to address thesituation of thousands of individuals, mostl🍰y women and children, suspected ofhaving links with ISIL and held in prisons in Iraq and Syria, so as to prevent securityand extremist risks from arising in the long run.
Speakers at the meeting alsourged addressing the root causes of terrorism, including economic difficultiescaused by the pandemic, while stressing that counter-terrorism measures mustconform to international law./.
The Party, Government, ministries and agencies of Vietnam have high political resolve to realise the national action plan on fighting money laundering and terrorist financing for 2015-2020, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue said on November 8.
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, head of the Anti-Money Laundering Steering Committee, has urged the Ministry of Public Security to coordinate with the State Bank of Vietnam to provide information and data proving Vietnam’s priority to counter terrorism and terrorist financing.
