Quang Tri (VNA) - The Vietnam Red Cross Society(VRCS) Central Committee on September 8 presented aid packages to families inthe central province of Quang Tri, who were affected by heavy rains andflooding from September 2 to 5.

The victims, living in Thanh and Thuan communes in Huong Hoamountainous district, were given 150 boxes of household items, each worth650,000 VND (28 USD); 100 water purifying tools worth 200,000 VND each; and 50school bags that could be used as buoys, each worth 250,000 VND.

Speaking at the event, Ho Ta Po, Chairman of the People’sCommittee in Thuan commune, said the natural calamity has damaged local farmingareas, forced 95 households to evacuate, and flooded 35 houses.

He said the VRCS’s assistance will help residents recover fromsuch consequences and normalize their life.

On the occasion, the VRCS handed over a total of 500 boxesof household items for affected families in other localities across Quang Tri.-VNA
