Vietnam remains world's top cashew exporter

 HCMCity (VNS/VNA) —🤪 In the past 30 years since the establishmentof the Vietnam Cashew Association (Vinacas), cashew exports have reachedmore than 31 billion USD, according to insiders.

PhamVan Cong, chairman of Vinacas, said the establishment of Vinacas was aturning point for the industry. Starting as a country thatexported raw cashew in small quantities, Vietnam has been the leadingexporter of the product worldwide for over 15 years. Thecashew industry exports its products to more than 90 countriesand territories, accounting for around 80 percent of exports of thenut globally. In1990, the association had 12 founding members, but the number isnow more than 500, representing the fields of planting,manufacturing, processing, trading, and import-export. Despitethe strong impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the cashew industry in Vietnamhas maintained its production and export at a high growth ratecompared to the same period in 2019. Accordingto the Agriculture Processing and Market Development under the Ministry ofAgriculture and Rural Development, in the first 10 months ofthe year, raw cashew exports reached 415,000 tonnes, and the value ofturnover was 2.61 billion USD. TheUS, the Netherlands and China remain Vietnam's top three largestcashew importers, accounting for 33.5 percent, 13 percent and 12.7 percent ofthe total cashew export value, respectively. Accordingto Cong, the Vietnamese cashew industry is facing both new opportunitiesand challenges. Trade integration with the rest of theworld offers great opportunities for the industry to expandits markets, and develop production and business./.
