Vietnam, RoK enhance cooperation in labour hygiene, safety

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and the Korea Industrial Safety Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in industrial safety and hygiene in Hanoi on May 5.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Labour,Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) and the Korea Industrial SafetyAssociation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation inindustrial safety and hygiene in Hanoi on May 5.

The signing of the MoU marks an importantmilestone in bilateral collaboration to promote safety culture at workplace viapreventing occupational accidents and diseases.

The Republic of Korea (RoK) will support Vietnamto build policies and projects to increase capacity and implement effectivelythe Law on Occupational Safety and Health.

Since 2003, the MoLISA has been carrying outcoordination activities under a technical cooperation agreement on labourhygiene and safety with the RoK’s Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA)and reaped significant outcomes.

The RoK government is supporting the MoLISA toimplement a project enhancing development capacity of the occupational hygieneand safety training centre in Vietnam.

The project was conducted by the KoreaInternational Cooperation Agency (KOICA) with the engagement of the KOSHA forthe 2013-2016 period and with a total budget of 3.4 million USD.

Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and SocialAffairs Doan Mau Diep said coping with labour hygiene and safety challenges iscrucial in the social welfare policies in order to build a safe community.

Vietnam is pushing ahead with the refinement ofthe legal system and infrastructure, especially reforming administrativeprocedures, providing social insurance, granting licenses for migrant workers,and ensuring labour sanitation and safety, to meet criteria on businessenvironment equally to other countries in ASEAN and attract foreign investors,he added.

The ministry vowed to provide maximum assistancefor Korean enterprises with labour resources and vocational training,particularly those operating in the spheres of electronic and hi-techindustries, he said.

He hoped the two nations will implementeffectively the reached agreements to ensure labour safety and discuss newcooperation orientations in the future.-VNA
