Vietnam, Singapore to intensify judicial cooperation

Singapore (VNA) – Chief Justice Nguyen Hoa Binh of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam and his Singaporean counterpart Sundaresh Menon agreed to intensify judicial cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore during their talks on July 25.
The two chief justices held talks within the framework of the 6th Council of ASEAN Chief Justices (CACJ) meeting and related meetings which areunderway in Singapore from July 24 – 27.
Speaking at the talks, Chief Justice of theSupreme Court of Singapore Sundaresh Menon suggested establishing a channel betweenthe two sides for information exchange on transnational disputes, and settingup cooperation between the Singapore International Commercial Court and theSupreme People’s Court of Vietnam.
He also proposed the two sides to together develop modelrules on the service abroad of judicial documents in civil matters, considerthe signing of a document guiding the enforcement of money judgments, andpromote the signing of an MoU for partnership between Singapore JudicialCollege and Vietnam Court Academy.
Binh, for his part, voiced his support for his host’sproposals. At the same time, he asked the Singaporean side to send experiencedjudges to train judicial lecturers in Vietnam, and to assist Vietnam informulating a bill on court-based conciliation.
He also congratulated the Singapore InternationalCommercial Court on its recent achievements, saying he will help improveawareness of the court among Vietnamese enterprises.
Vietnam highly appreciates the coordination and supportthe Supreme Court of Singapore has given to its Vietnamese counterpart over thepast several years, particularly in developing the code of ethics forVietnamese judges.

As environmental disputes, especially between citizens and businesses, are increasing, it is important to ensure better environmental justice as well as people’s access to information and participation in decision-making in environmental matters that affect them.
The Justice Ministry must continue to review business conditions and eliminate overlapping and unnecessary regulations, said Minister and Chairman of the Office of the Government Mai Tien Dung.

In particular, in April 2023, the two sides successfully carried out a joint operation that dismantled a major organised, transnational drug trafficking ring involving both Vietnamese and Cambodian suspects.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
The ministry has instructed Vietnamese representative agencies in Israel, Iran, as well as those in neighbouring countries, to closely monitor the situation and request local authorities to ensure absolute safety for Vietnamese citizens living, studying, and working in high-risk areas.
