Le Ngoc Thanh, Director of the CardiovascularCentre of Hanoi-based Hospital E, said on May 16 that the operation wasconducted on an 11-year-old girl from central Nghe An province whosuffered a congenital valvular disease of the heart.

Compared with atraditional open surgery with a 20-30cm cut along the breastbone, themethod using endoscopic equipment only left two small holes on thepatient’s left chest, helping her feel less painful and recover morequickly, he said.

This technique has brought great hope to cardiopatients who cannot undergo surgery due to their weak health or oldages, he added.-VNA
