Vietnam takes over Chairmanship of ASEAN Moscow Committee

Moscow (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia NgoDuc Manh on November 21 took over the rotating Chairmanship of the ASEAN MoscowCommittee (AMC) from the Thai ambassador.
The hand-over took place during the fourth meeting of the AMC heldin the Hanoi-Moscow Complex (Incentra) in the Russian capital city the sameday.
Ambassadors from other ASEAN member countries, including thePhilippines, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos and Indonesia, expressed their support forVietnam’s AMC Chairmanship, which, they said, is expected to help promotesolidarity and cooperation between the grouping and Russia.
The meeting adopted the plan on the committee’s activities in 2020proposed by Vietnam.
Accordingly, the committee is scheduled to host such activities asan ASEAN flag hoisting ceremony, ASEAN Family Day, a workshop on ASEAN-Russiaeconomic collaboration and other events featuring ASEAN cuisines and culture.
Founded in 1967, the Association of SoutheastAsian Nations (ASEAN) groups 10 member countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia,Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand andVietnam./.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev discussed measures to further promote partnership between the two countries in various fields during their talks in Hanoi on November 19 as part of the latter’s official visit to Vietnam.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Russia-ASEAN Business Council (RABC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on mutual understanding, creating a foundation for bilateral cooperation in the time ahead, especially in the digital field.

Vietnam is a country with which Russia shares a special relationship. In the 1950s and 60s, particularly during Vietnam’s struggle for independence, the two countries forged a deep bond. Highlighting the transformative potential of the draft law in revitalising Vietnam’s railway industry, Hoang Van Cuong, a deputy of Hanoi, expressed his support for Article 39, which empowers the Prime Minister to issue a list of railway-related goods and services to be assigned or ordered from domestic enterprises for production.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, Hoan, formerly Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, is under investigation for allegedly taking bribes in connection with a case involving the Hoang Long Construction and Manpower Supply JSC and related units.
