Hanoi (VNA) – As manyas 8.7 million COVID-19 vaccine doses are scheduled to arrive in Vietnam thisJuly, according to Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long.
At a July 8 videoconferencewith Ho Chi Minh City under the chair of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, theminister noted these doses will be prioritised for HCM City and nearbyprovinces currently hit by the fourth wave of infections, frontline forces,industrial production personnel, as well as those above 65 years of age or withunderlying health conditions.
The vaccination will becarried out at a large number of sites with different time slots to preventmass gatherings, he said, adding that mobile vaccination vehicles will also bedeployed to some residential areas.
Long went on to say that thefight against COVID-19 in HCM City is not only for the sake of this southernmetropolis but also key to the success of nationwide anti-pandemic efforts,especially in nearby provinces like Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Long An.
The Ministry of Health will setup 24 support teams and send about 10,000 health workers to help the citycollect samples, conduct tests, and give treatment.
So far, Vietnam has received nearly5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses, including 2.5 million doses of theAztraZeneca vaccine provided via the COVAX Facility, 1.4 million doses by theJapanese Government (another 600,000 doses expected to arrive this week),500,000 doses by the Chinese Government, over 400,000 doses by the VietnamVaccine JSC (VNVC), and over 97,000 doses of the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine.
The country is set to receive2 million Moderna vaccine doses supplied by the US Government via COVAX this week.
By the end of July 7, thehealth sector has administered 3,960,956 COVID-19 vaccine doses, with 241,913people getting the full two shots./.
