Vietnam will host the 10 th ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE) Conference & Exhibition in 2013.
The decision was made during the 9 th ASCOPE Conference &Exhibition held in Bangkok, Thailand, from November 18-20, which drewoil and gas officials and experts from Southeast Asian countries andrepresentatives of 200 leading energy companies of 30 countries in andoutside the region.
A Vietnamese delegation to the event was led by Deputy Director of theVietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) Nguyen Van Minh.
At the conference, themed “Fuelling the future of ASEAN towardsSustainable Development”, participants discussed issues relating tovisions, opportunities and challenges in oil and gas exploration anddevelopment as well as cooperation in developing green technologies andenergies.
The conference also stressed the importance of strengtheninginternational partnership to ensure the regional energy security in thecontext that ASEAN needs at least 100 billion USD for the energy sectorin the next 10-15 years to meet its increasing demand.
ASCOPE was set up on October 15, 1975 with five founding members,namely Indonesia , the Philippines , Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
Vietnam become the council’s seventh member in November 1996./.
