Vietnam to sell 900,000 tonnes of alumina to UAE

Hanoi (VNA) - The VietnamNational Coal and Mineral Industries Corporation (Vinacomin) has signed acontract to supply alumina to Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) from the UnitedArab Emirates (UAE) for three years from 2018-2020.

Under the contract,Vinacomin will supply300,000 tonnes of alumina per year for the EGA in three consecutive years asraw material for the UAE company’s aluminum electrolytic plants.

This is the Vinacomin’s first long-termcontract signed with a partner in the Middle East which is in line with theguidance of the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade on developingrelations with Middle East and African countries in the 2016-2025 period.

Along with long-term contracts signed withpartners from India, Switzerland, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and others,this deal will contribute to ensuring Vinacomin’s consumption of alumina indifferent markets across the world.

Abdulla Kalban, CEO of the EGA, said thatthe contract will be a good start towards the expansion of the cooperationbetween the EGA and Vinacomin in the future.

General Director of Vinacomin Dang Thanh Haibelieved that this contract will contribute to promoting trade cooperationbetween Vinacomin and EGA in particular and between Vietnam and the UAE ingeneral in the near future.

The EGA is the largest industrial companyin the UAE outside oil and gas. It also has more than 40 years of experience inaluminum production with an output up to 2.4 million tonnes per year.-VNA
