Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam wishes tolearn more from France’s experience in the United Nations (UN) peacekeepingactivities.

Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the VietnamPeople’s Army Vo Van Tuan made the statement at a reception for First Counselorof France’s Embassy in Vietnam Remi Lambert, in Hanoi on December 8.

He highly valued the experience shared by Frenchexperts at a recent workshop in Hanoi on the dispatch of a sapper unit to UNpeacekeeping missions.

The workshop was co-organised by the VietnamPeacekeeping Centre and the French Embassy in Vietnam on December 7.

This activity demonstrated the commitments ofthe two countries’ Ministries of Defence to implementing technical cooperationagreements in the field, Tuan said.

Remi Lambert reported on the outcomes of theworkshop, saying Vietnamese and French experts discussed tasks and challengesin conducting peacekeeping activities as well as organising, equipping andtraining a sapper unit.

Vietnam officially joined the UN peacekeepingactivities in 2014. So far, 12 Vietnamese officials have been deployed to domissions at UN operations in South Sudan and Central African Republic.

The country has also dispatched 83 officials tojoin short-term training courses at the invitation of the UN and in theframework of regional and international cooperation./.
