Hanoi (VNA)🅺 - With experience accumulated in multilateralexternal relations over the past decades, cooperation and support from othercountries and its own efforts, Vietnam is well positioned to fulfil its role inthe UN Security Commission (UNSC), said Ambassador Dinh Thi Minh Huyen, formerdirector of the Foreign Ministry’s Department of International Organisations.
Talking to the press on Vietnam’ssuccess in the election of non-permanent members of the UNSC on June 7, theAmbassador said the election’s result reflected the support and trust of UNmember states for Vietnam, a country following an external policy of peace, independenceand strong commitment to the UN’s principles and noble goals.
The success also demonstratedthe sound external policy of the Party and the State, and the rising positionand prestige of Vietnam on the international arena, she said, adding that itwill create more favourable conditions for Vietnam to bring into play its rolein the UN and other international organisations, towards the goal ofmaintaining a peaceful environment favourable for national construction anddefence.
The diplomat stressed that inorder to fulfil the mission mandated by UN member states, Vietnam must make thegreatest efforts and the best preparations for the work in the UNSC. Accordingto her, the country should study the UNSC agenda, keep itself updated on thedevelopments of world issues, especially complicated matters, and consult othercountries and international experts. Vietnam should also research and form ideason what the country can do, she said.

Deputy PM and FM Pham Binh Minh has stressed the need to further boost the role of multilateralism in an interview granted to Vietnam News Agency's reporter after Vietnam won a seat on the UNSC.
