Vietnamese, Chinese coast guards cooperate to fight crimes in Gulf of Tonkin
The coast guards of Vietnam and China will conduct joint patrol quarterly to prevent crimes and violations in the waters adjacent to the delimitation line in the Gulf of Tonkin, heard an online meeting between the two sides held on January 31.

Hanoi (VNA) – The coast guards of Vietnam and China will conduct joint patrol quarterly to prevent crimes and violations in the waters adjacentto the delimitation line in the Gulf of Tonkin, heard an online meeting betweenthe two sides held on January 31.
The meeting was co-chaired by Colonel Luong Dinh Hung, Director of theDepartment of Professional Affairs and Law under the Vietnam Coast Guard and ColonelDing Wengang, director of the law enforcement department of the Nanhai branchof the China Coast Guard.
Besides reaching consensus on sharing information on crimes in the Gulfof Tonkin, focusing on drug trafficking and illegal immigration, the two sidesagreed to work together to sketch out plans for crime prevention and ask competent authorities for permission to take joint actions.
The Vietnamese coast guard force has recorded signs of trafficking, trade fraud,drug crimes and illegal transport of oil in the waters of Mong Cai city – the localitywith robust trade activities with China.
According to Colonel Hung, sophisticated methods and tricks of criminalscoupled with violations of fishing vessels from the two countries have posedrisks to security order in the waters.
Vietnam and China approved the agreement on maritime boundary delimitation inthe Gulf of Tonkin in 2004. Over the past time, the pact was carried out seriously,contributing to consolidating their traditional friendship as well asmaintaining and promoting stability and development in the waters./.
A delegation from the China Coast Guard (CCG) led by its Director Maj. Gen Yu Zhong held a working session with the High Command of Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG) Region 1 on December 8, as part of the first exchange programme “Vietnam coast guards and friends” in 2022.
Vietnam and China held the 16th round of negotiations of the working group on the sea area beyond the mouth of the Gulf of Tonkin and the 13th round of talks of the working group for consultation on cooperation for mutual development at sea in China’s Guangdong province on July 4.

The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
