Hanoi, (VNA) – Director Ngo Thanh Van has brought her most recent film “Tam Cam: The Un💯told Story” to the 21st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), which runs between October 6 and 15.
The 90-minute fantasy movie is based on Tam Cam, a fairy tale best known as the Vietnamese version of Cinderella.
Van said more than 20 billion VND (nearly 900,000 USD) was invested in filming to ensure high-quality production. It was her second film, after “Ngay nay ngay nay” (The Lost Dragon) in 2014, which attracted more than 500,000 people in HCM City after the first three weeks of its release.
Van performed in several films directed by Vietnamese and overseas Vietnamese directors before becoming a director and producer herself.
Another Asian female directors presented at the event include Hitomi Kuroki from Japan with her directorial debut “Desperate Sunflowers” and Konkona Sen Sharma from India also with her first movie released - “A Death in the Gunj”.
BIFF Programmer Kim Young-woo said Asian female directors are defining themselves and gaining favour with viewers, adding that the trend is clear at the BIFF this year.
The 21 st BIFF screens 301 films from 69 countries. On the opening day, it welcomed 200 VIP guests and about 5,000 fans.-VNA
Two Vietnamese films have been enlisted in A Window on Asian Cinema, one in ten main sections of the 21st Busan International Film Festival to be held next month.
Eight teams will join the tournament, divided into two groups. Group A features Vietnam, the Philippines, Sichuan Club (China), and Australia, while Group B consists of Vietnam U21, Korabelka Club (Russia), Taiwan (China), and U21 Thailand.
Despite strong home support and high expectations, Vietnam were unable to overcome the defending champions, who secured their third consecutive win over Vietnam in a regional final, following previous victories in 2014 and 2023.
The event, part of Vietnam’s cultural diplomacy strategy through 2030, was jointly organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela and USM’s Faculty of International Relations. It attracted thousands of students from universities across Venezuela.
For the first time, Vietnamese audiences will have the opportunity to experience the ballet masterpiece "Don Quixote" in its original version by renowned choreographer Marius Petipa.

The U23 competition will run from June 16 to 22, followed by the U17 event from June 23 to 28, while athletes competing in the U23 category will undergo weight and skill checks ahead of the matches starting June 18, while similar checks for U17 athletes will take place before June 23.
