Vietnamese NA Chairwoman meets Sri Lankan counterpart

Doha (VNA) – Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Nganhad a meeting with Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Karu Jayasuriya onApril 7 on the sidelines of the 140th Assembly of theInter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-140) in Doha, Qatar.
The two legislative leaders laid stress on the traditional friendship betweenthe two nations, and shared the view that the ties should be furtherstrengthened and developed based on each other’s potential and strengths.
KaruJayasuriya said that Sri Lankan leaders have had discussions with theVietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Vietnam toarrange delegation exchanges in the time ahead as well as seek measures toboost cooperative relations, especially in promoting Vietnamese exports to thesouthern Asian country and wind power collaboration.
He took the occasion to invite NA Chairwoman Ngan to pay an official visit to SriLanka at a suitable time.
TheVietnamese top legislator recalled her good impression on Sri Lankan people andcountry during her visit to Sri Lanka in February 2013 when she was serving asa NA Vice Chairwoman, and accepted the invitation to visit the country withpleasure.
Vietnam and Sri Lanka set up diplomatic relations on July 21, 1970. The soundfriendship and cooperation have been nurtured and consolidated by the twocountries in the past time.
Regarding parliamentary cooperation, the two parliaments have enhanceddelegation exchanges at all levels, shared experience in parliamentaryoperation, and consulted and supported each other at multilateral parliamentarycooperation mechanisms. Besides promoting the role of the friendshipparliamentary groups, they have worked to step up the implementation ofagreements inked between the two countries.-VNA
Cooperation in religion between Vietnam and Sri Lanka has contributed to the religious work in each country and to stepping up people-to-people diplomacy and tightening the bilateral traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation.
