Vietnamese students shine in Australia

Eleven students from Vietnam in the eastern Australian State of New South Wales have been honoured for their outstanding academic performance.

A New South Wales ceremony washeld on February 25 to extol the international students who made zealouscontributions to scholastic social activities such as earningtop-flight in exams, raising charity funds, and engaging in communityhumanitarian works.

Born in 1995 in the northerncity of Hai Phong, Vi Quoc Tung, a student at selective Moorebank highschool, expressed his pride of being recognised as one of the mostexcellent students in the State.

Tung, whotopped the three consecutive math contests in Moorebank, spoke of hispeers who have been shining in both study and community activities inAustralia.

He himself has voluntarilyparticipated in a cancer research fund and intends to studyinformation-technology at Sydney University.

Vietnamese students in Australia number over 22,000.

During a visit to Vietnam on February 18, Australian Foreign MinisterJulie Bishop said that her Government will increase scholarships forVietnamese students and create best conditions for their studies in thecountry.-VNA
