Vietnamese tourism sector aims to enter regional top group
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved a project to restructure the tourism sector to turn it into a spearhead economic sector for the country and make Vietnam one of the nations with the most developed tourism sector in Southeast Asia.
Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved aproject to restructure the tourism sector to turn it into a spearhead economicsector for the country and make Vietnam one of the nations with the mostdeveloped tourism sector in Southeast Asia.
The major objectives of the project include optimising the advantages intourism products, market and resources as well as management systems, thusimproving the sector’s economic, social and environmental efficiency.
Specifically, the project sets a target of 45 billion USD in tourismrevenue by 2025, with exports through tourism reaching 27 billion USD. Thesector is hoped to contribute more than 10 percent to GDP and create 6 millionjobs, including 2 million direct jobs. At the same time, the sector hopes to serve32 million foreign tourists and more than 130 million domestic visitors.
The tourism product system is expected to be shaped with unique anddiverse products with strong Vietnamese cultural identity and a prestigiousbrand name.
Smart tourism will be applied widely, while Vietnamese tourism’scompetitiveness is expected to be enhanced.
In order to fulfil the targets, the sector will focus on exploitingpotential markets with high spending and long staying of tourists, whilestrengthening some strong products such as community-based tourism, medicaltourism, meetings, incentives,conferences and exhibitions tourism and cuisine tourism.
At the same time, products with high added value will be increased.
Tourism business will also be restructured. Large-scale firms withstrong trademarks are encouraged to become the key force driving thedevelopment of products and markets, especially the high-end section.
The sector will develop small and medium-sized travel firms, while buildinga healthy competitive environment for the businesses.-VNA
