Vietnam’s A/H1N1 prevention measures on track

Dr. Nguyen Huy Nga, Head of the Preventive Medicine Department andspokesman for the Ministry of Health (MoH), said on January 12 that themeasures include keeping the virus out of the country as much aspossible, epidemic control and the on-the-spot isolation of fluvictims.

Improving people’s awareness of the dangers of the A/H1N1 virus is seen as key to keeping the disease at bay, he added.

Thanks to accurate assessments of how the flu is developing, the MoHhas listed suitable medications for victims during each phase, withTamiflu being the most adaptable medicine, said Nga.

With its available stocks of Tamiflu plus 1.2 million doses of A/H1N1vaccine provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Vietnam hassufficient medicines to deal with the disease.

Since the first case was recorded in Vietnam on May 30, 2009, thecountry has confirmed over 12,000 A/H1N1 patients, with 53 fatalities./.
