Hanoi (VNA) –ꩵ Vietnam’s aviation industry recorded strong growth during the April 30–May 1 holiday period, maintaining seamless operations across airports nationwide, meeting the travel demands of citizens and tourists.

This year’s holiday spanned five days, from April 30 to May 4. Thanks to timely directives from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), the sector experienced robust growth even before the official holiday began. Between April 29 and May 4, more than 12,610 flights took off and landed at airports across the country, marking a 19.45% increase compared to the same period last year. Passenger volume reached over 2.09 million, up 25.83%, while cargo volume rose by 18.57% to 23,360 tonnes. Tan Son Nhat International Airport handled approximately 4,320 flights, 709,600 passengers, and 8,400 tonnes of cargo, corresponding to increases of 14.3%, 19.54%, and 0.73%, respectively, year-on-year. On average, more than 2,000 flights operated daily nationwide during this period, transporting over 340,000 passengers and about 3,800 tonnes of cargo each day. At Tan Son Nhat, April 29 was the busiest day, with 734 flights and over 128,000 passengers. May 2 marked the quietest day, with 700 flights and over 111,000 travelers.

Other major airports reported significant growth. Noi Bai International Airport saw approximately 3,480 flights, 578,480 passengers, and 12,920 tonnes of cargo, up 24.62%, 29.67%, and 24.4%, respectively, compared to last year. Da Nang International Airport reported 1,670 flights, 271,170 passengers, and 1,000 tonnes of cargo, registering year-on-year increases of 23.16%, 26.68%, and a staggering 207.97%. Despite initial delays due to ground service transitions at several airports, Vietnamese airlines maintained stable operations and recorded strong performance throughout the holiday. Between April 29 and May 4, Vietnamese carriers transported approximately 986,800 passengers (up 29.81%) and 6,009 tonnes of cargo (up 3.87%). On international routes, airlines carried 330,740 passengers and 2,890 tonnes of cargo, up 31.61% and 10.11%, respectively. On domestic routes, they served 656,006 passengers (up 28.92%) and 3,200 tonnes of cargo (a slight decrease of 1.1%).

Commenting on the overall operations, CAAV Director Uong Viet Dung affirmed that aviation activities over the holiday period were stable, continuous, and smooth, with no major disruptions. Relevant units and functional departments actively coordinated to address emerging issues promptly, ensuring security and operational safety across the sector. The strong growth in operational performance during this period is a clear result of effective management, implementation, and coordination among the authorities and units within the aviation sector, said Dung. This also provides a solid foundation for agencies and units to continue in preparation for the upcoming summer peak and to strive toward achieving the aviation sector’s growth targets for the year, he added./.
