Vietnam exported 12.45 million tonnes of cement and clinker in thelast eleven months, representing a year-on-year increase of almost 63percent.

During the period, the country’s total cement salesincreased nearly 13 percent against the same period last year, reaching55.17 million tonnes.

The rise in sales volume was mainly dueto exporting cement and clinker, said President of the VietnamConstruction Materials Association (VCMA) Tran Van Huynh, adding that itis only a palliative attempt to clear surplus inventory because of lowprices and similar situation in many countries.

The Ministryof Construction projected that the cement sector is likely to reach atotal sales of 60.5 million tonnes this year, up 4.5 million tonnesagainst the forecast target of 56 million tonnes.

Accordingto VCMA, domestic demand for cement will reduce from the projectedfigure of 75-76 million tonnes to about 60-65 million tonnes by 2015.-VNA
