Vietnam’s electricity access index surges on WB business index

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’sGetting Electricity indicator was ranked 27th among 190 countries and economiesin the World Bank’s Doing Business report in 2018, up 37 places from last year.

The indicator was assessed based onprocedures, time and cost to connect to the national grid, reliability inelectricity provision and transparency of electricity cost.

It is the fifth consecutive yearVietnam’s Getting Electricity has improved. With 87.94 points, the highest levelso far, Vietnam recorded the highest increase in theindicator in Southeast Asia.

Notably, the country surpassed thePhilippines to claim the fourth place in the region. Rankings in electricityaccess surged 129 places from the 156th spot in 2013 to the current position.

TheElectricity of Vietnam (EVN) said the indicator witnessed the highest increaseamong the 10 economic sectors covered by the report.

Vietnamis also among the top four countries of the Comprehensive and ProgressiveAgreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) with the best electricityaccess.

TheEVN noted it has implemented various measures to improve customer servicesrecently, including the launch of an online portal and a 24/7 hotline.

This year, the electricity sector hasworked with authorities nationwide to offer more services to businesses andpeople, as well as enhance transparency.

Technology application has alsoimproved electricity provision in the past two years, the EVN added.-VNA
