HCM City (VNA) – The second patient with monkeypox in Vietnam was discharged from hospital on October 31 after two weeks of treatment, according to Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
The 38-year-old female patient’s fever has gone after treatment. PCR test results showed that she was negative to monkeypox virus.
The patient, who resides in the northern province of Tuyen Quang, traveled to Dubai from September 29 to October 18 and developed symptoms including fever, nausea and blisters since October 11. She has close contact with a friend who stayed together in the same accommodation in Dubai and had monkeypox symptoms including fever and blisters on the genitals.
After noticing the first patient has symptoms similar to hers, she immediately informed the HCM City Centre for Disease Control for assistance. Right after her coming back to Vietnam, she was taken to the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases for quarantine and confirmed infected with monkeypox on October 20.

A woman returning from Dubai has tested positive for monkeypox, making her the second case detected in Vietnam, reported the Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Health on October 20.
As the second monkeypox patient was put under quarantine upon her arrival at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City, she did not come into contact with anyone in the community, hence a zero risk of community infection, a health official confirmed.
Since the suspected diagnosis as Vietnam’s first case of monkey pox, the Ministry of Health and Ho Chi Minh City have handled all stages of surveillance, testing, zoning in accordance with instruction and guidance.
Despite storm-related disruptions and flight delays, the organs were successfully transported via a combination of air and ground travel. All patients are currently stable and recovering well.
The patient, Tieu Viet But, born in 1970 and residing in Binh Tri commune, Binh Son district, the central province of Quang Ngai, was working aboard fishing vessel Qng – 95657TS when the incident occurred at 7:00 am.
