Vietship 2018 attracts many foreign firms

Hanoi (VNA) – The ninth International Exhibition onShipbuilding, Shipping and Offshore Technology (Vietship 2018) officiallyopened at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi on January 24.

The three-day event has drawn 97 exhibitorsfrom 13 countries, including 59 domestic and 38 international businesses.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, DeputyMinister of Transport Nguyen Van Cong said Vietnam has many advantages to developthe sea-based economy thanks to a long coastline and its location on theworld’s important maritime axis.

In particular, Vietnam considers shipbuildingan important part of the maritime economy and has created optimal conditions forlocal and foreign investors in this field, he added.

Acting General Director of the ShipbuildingIndustry Corporation (SBIC) Cao Thanh Dong said the exhibition, the country’sbiggest event of its kind, has bolstered cooperation, investment and technologyexchanges since it was first held in 2002.

The exhibition this year introduces productsin the fields of shipbuilding, ship repair and maintenance technology, materialsand equipment for shipbuilding, equipment and facility for shipyard, offshoreengineering and facilities, waterway transportation and services, marine supplylogistics, ports technology and equipment, design, insurance and more.

The conference “Shipping and ShipbuildingMarket in Vietnam – Challenges and Opportunities” and a contract signingceremony will take place within the event’s framework.-VNA
