Vientiane (VNA) – Star Telecom (Unitel), a joint venture between the Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) of Vietnam and Lao Asia Telecom, has become an outstanding model for the economic cooperation between Vietnam and Laos after 15 years of operation in Laos.
Now, Unitel is the largest telecoms enterprise in Laos in terms of subscribers, revenue and network infrastructure, as well as one of the largest tax payers and budget contributors.
Unitel has built more than 9,000 base transceiver stations (BTS) including 5,000 4G stations and 42,000 km of fiber optic cables in Laos. Its network covers 94% of the whole territory of Laos, providing a 4G coverage of 83%, making Laos one of the countries with the best telecommunications infrastructure in Southeast Asia.
The company celebrated its 15th anniversary with an event on November 19 in Vientiane, Laos.
On this occasion, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Chansamone Chanyalath presented Unitel with the first-class Labour Order conferred by the Lao President.

With⛦in the framework of the celebration, Unitel launched its 5G services, which marked a major turning point in the company's journey of pioneering technology and digital transformation in Laos. Laos is the third market where Viettel has commercialise 5G in 2024./.
