VNR500: Seven largest firms post 100 trillion VND turnover

Seven enterprises in Vietnam’s top 500 (VNR500) achieved a turnover of over 100 trillion VND (4.7 billion USD) in 2013.

The information was unveiled by the Vietnam Report Joint Stock Company on January 17.

They are the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam),Vietnam Electricity (EVN), Vietnam National Petroleum Group(Petrolimex), Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEV), Viettel Corporation,Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT), and Russian-VietnameseOil and Gas joint venture (VietsoPetro).

Private enterprisesaccount for more than 44 percent of the total number of firms in thisyear’s list, followed by state-owned companies (over 40 percent) andforeign enterprises (over 15 percent).

The state-ownedcompanies, however, still dominate the list in regards to turnover, withmore than 62 percent of the total.

Additionally, the 2013 list sees the presence of 160 new names, equivalent to over 32 percent of the total number.

The industry sector has the largest firms with 72 percent. Of this,mineral, oil and gas firms account for more than 33.6 percent of thetotal revenues.

The VNR500 is based on internationalstandards and determined by several factors including profit, growthrate, labour, owner equity and total assets.

It aims to honour the achievements of the largest enterprises which represent Vietnam’s business community every year.-VNA
