Vu A Dinh scholarships presented to excellent ethnic students

HCM City (VNA) – The Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund presented scholarshipsto 15 outstanding ethnic students nationwide, who had excellent academicperformance during 2017-2018 academic year, at a ceremony held in Ho Chi MinhCity on June 16.

The event was jointly organised by the management board of the scholarship fundand the Ho Chi Minh City Television.

Lauding the fund’s activities, First Secretary of the Central Committee of theHo Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Le Quoc Phong underlined that Vu A Dinhscholarships have helped impoverished ethnic students realise their dreams and becomegood citizens to the society.

On the occasion, the Vu A Dinh awards were presented to nine organisations and13 individuals, recognising their contributions to the development of themountainous regions and ethnic minority groups.

At the event, domestic and foreign businesses and benefactors donated nearly 55billion VND (2.42 million USD) to the scholarship fund.

Last year, the fund handed over nearly 5,000 scholarships to ethnic studentsacross the country. The “Mo duong tuong lai” (Pave the way to the future)project, carried out by the scholarship fund, assisted 50 ethnic female studentsto attend school. Meanwhile, three schools were constructed for students inDien Bien and Yen Bai provinces under its “Thap sang tuong lai” (lighting thefuture) scheme.

The scholarship fund also presented 3,000 scholarships to children of naval officersand fishermen in localities affected by natural disasters. Eleven houses werebuilt for.

The Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund, named after a young liaison officer killedduring the French resistance war, was set up in 1999 by the Ho Chi MinhCommunist Youth Union to support poor ethnic students in their study.-VNA
