WB funds new power station in Thanh Hoa

A contract to construct the 260 MW Trung Son hydropower station, which is the first to be funded by the World Bank, was signed in Hanoi on October 22.
A contract to construct the 260 MW Trung Son hydropower station, whichis the first to be funded by the World Bank, was signed in Hanoi onOctober 22.

The signatories included the Trung Son Hydropower Company under theElectricity of Vietnam (EVN), contractors Sam Sung C&T and theConstruction Joint Stock Company No. 47. According to Ngo Viet Hai, theChairman and CEO of the Trung Son Company, this phase will cost nearly150 million USD.

Keiko Sato, the World Bank’sVietnam Portfolio and Operations Manager stated that this is animportant project for Vietnam ’s future and said she hopes that theWB’s financial assistance will be used effectively during the project’sconstruction.

With a total investment of around386 million USD, the Trung Son hydropower is being built on the MaRiver, in Trung Son commune, Quan Hoa district, in the centralprovince of Thanh Hoa and will comprise of four turbines.

One fully completed and fully in operation by 2018, the power station will produce 1.55 billion kWh annually.

Apart from generating power, the project will also help to control floods in the central region.-VNA
