A photo of the ceremony to start the project. (Source: VNA) Soc Trang (VNA) – Work on the Tran De – Soc TrangWharf connecting with Con Dao island started on March 13 in Tran De town, theMekong delta province of Soc Trang by the Superdong Fast Ferry – Kien Giang JSC.
Quach Hoa, member of the company’s Board of Directors, said theSoc Trang – Con Dao route is expected to be launched in June.
The project, with a total investment of 90 billion VND, sitson over 3.6 hectares in Dau Giong village, Tran De town.
It includes jetty, dyke, terminal, restaurant, reading room, parking,entertainment areas, and other auxiliary facilities.
According to Nguyen Van The, Secretary of the provincialParty’s Committee, the province lures 1.2 million tourists every year. Theroute is expected to lure more tourists to Con Dao island via Soc Trang.
He pledged that Soc Trang will create optimal conditions forinvestors and will continue developing infrastructure facilities, services topromote tourism.
According to the company, speedboat Superdong Con Dao 1, beingbuilt in Malaysia at a cost of around 50 billion VND (2.2 million USD), has acapacity of 306 passengers. The ship will be delivered to the company in May.In the first six months of operation, the ship is expected to serve 30,000people between Soc Trang and Con Dao.
Speedboat Superdong Con Dao 2 is expected to be put intooperation in the first quarter in 2018.
Con Dao is an island district of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. Sitting 185kilometres from Vung Tau city and 230 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City, Con Daoplays a significant role in socio-economic, defence and security development inthe country’s southern seas and islands.
