Hanoi (VNA) – President of the Vietnam GeneralConfederation of Labour Bui Van Cuong has called on all trade union members andworkers to stay calm and vigilant over manipulation of extremists and not tolet others take advantages of their patriotism.

In his letter released on June 11, Cuong, who is alsoVice President of the World Federation of Trade Unions, asked trade unionmembers and workers nationwide to advise their friends, family members andco-workers to not take part in illegal acts and to not share extremism contenton social networks.

“For the country’s stability and development, we all mustunite and believe in the leadership of the Party and State, defeat sabotage plotsfrom hostile forces, ensure security and social safety, protect companies and enterprisesas well as our own jobs,” he said.

In recent days, the National Assembly had been debatingthe draft Law on Special Administrative and Economic Units of Van Don, Bac VanPhong and Phu Quoc which sparked public concerns. Many extremists have made useof this issue to manipulate workers in some localities into gathering in largenumbers and acting aggressively. These actions have caused traffic jams andseriously affected people’s life and business as well as social security andsafety.

After listening to the public voice, the NA on June 11voted to postpone the debate and adoption of the bill and plans to review it atthe next sitting later this year.

According to NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu, the buildingof the draft law on special economic zones is a major policy of the Party andState.

However, this is a new, complicated and controversial issue, so the NA StandingCommittee had agreed with the Government to ask the legislature for permissionto delay the approval of the bill in order to have more time for studying andcompletion, Luu said.

Meanwhile, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan mentionedgatherings in some localities on June 10 with some involving in extremist actsaffecting social order and people’s normal life. This showed that issuesdiscussed at the legislature are pervading the society, she said, expressingher regret that some persons did not understand the nature of the matter, henceoverreacting.
