Hanoi (VNA) – Wutip, the first storm in the East Sea so far this year, has wreaked havoc across central Vietnam, claimi🍒ng lives, displacing residents, and causing widespread damage to houses, crops, and infrastructure, the Department of Dyke Mana🐻gement and Disaster Prevention and Control reported as of 6:30 pm on June 13.

Floods have already claimed two lives in Quang Tri province and left four others missing in Quang Binh province. Floodwaters turned 3,575 homes into swamps, with Quang Tri bearing the brunt - 2,770 houses underwater. Quang Nam province saw 725 homes flooded, while Da Nang City had 80. Another 28 houses were wrecked or lost their roofs, including 27 in Ha Tinh and one in Quang Tri.
The agricultural toll was severe, with 88,711ha of rice and crops submerged across many provinces. Aquaculture farms spanning 1,800ha were also affected, primarily in Quang Binh (1,553 ha), with additional losses in Quang Tri, Quang Nam, and Da Nang. In Da Nang, 38 landslides disrupted transportation routes, further complicating recovery efforts. In response, local authorities are racing to help, visiting grieving families, deploying rescue teams to hunt for the missing, and helping victims rebuild and resume normal life. They’re also scrambling to save what’s left of the crops and clear the wrecked infrastructure in the worst-hit zones./.

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycl🐽ing, reuse, treatment eꦉfforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
